Today marks the true beginning of your Manaslu Circuit adventure as we leave behind the bustling capital and head deep into Nepal’s rural mid-hills. After an early breakfast, your trekking guide and driver will pick you up for the journey to Machhakhola, the gateway to the Manaslu region.

The drive winds through the countryside of Nepal, offering glimpses of everyday village life, terraced fields, and lush hillsides. The road passes through towns like Dhading Besi, Aarughat, and Arkhet, each adding a unique charm to the journey. From Aarughat onwards, the road turns rougher and narrower, following the Budi Gandaki River upstream, with ever-changing scenery and dramatic valley landscapes.

On clear days, you can catch distant views of Ganesh Himal (7,422m), Manaslu (8,163m), Shingri Himal, and other snow-capped peaks glistening on the horizon. Occasional waterfalls cascade down the cliffside, and you'll notice a shift in the architecture and terrain as we inch closer to the Himalayas.

We reach Machhakhola (930m) by late afternoon or early evening. This small riverside settlement offers a peaceful overnight stay before the trekking begins. The sound of the Budi Gandaki’s rushing waters and the fresh mountain air set the tone for the next leg of our journey.

Today’s trek officially takes us deeper into the Manaslu Conservation Area, and the sense of adventure truly begins. We follow the Budi Gandaki River along a winding trail that continuously ascends and descends through a lush, narrow gorge. The route is dotted with small settlements, rich forests, cascading waterfalls, and natural hot springs—offering a balance of physical challenge and scenic beauty.

After leaving Machhakhola, we trek along the riverbank, passing through Tharo Khola, a small hamlet tucked beside the flowing waters. Shortly after, we reach Khorlabesi, a charming village inhabited by Gurung people. Here, you’ll notice traditional stone houses and terraced farms that reflect mountain life in its purest form.

A little further along the trail, we arrive at Tatopani, renowned for its natural hot spring. This is an ideal rest stop—dip your tired feet or simply relax beside the warm mineral water to soothe your muscles and recharge for the climb ahead.

From Tatopani, the trail begins to ascend more steeply. We cross a wooden bridge and climb over a ridge to reach Dobhan, a forest-covered valley settlement. The path then winds through deep subtropical forests, where you might spot grey langur monkeys, colorful birds, and perhaps even a musk deer if you're lucky.

The final stretch takes us along high ridges with occasional glimpses of snow-capped peaks and the river valley below. Eventually, we arrive at Jagat Village, a traditional stone-paved settlement perched above the river. This is the official checkpoint where our Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP) will be registered. Jagat also offers stunning views of surrounding cliffs, waterfalls, and green ridgelines—a peaceful and atmospheric stop for the night.

Today’s journey continues along the Manaslu Circuit Trek itinerary, revealing a blend of remote Himalayan wilderness and culturally rich village life. The trail follows the Budi Gandaki River, weaving through lush sub-tropical forests, cascading waterfalls, and neatly terraced hillsides cultivated by mountain communities.

Leaving Jagat, we ascend a rocky ridge and pass through the small settlement of Salleri, where you’ll get a breathtaking view of Sringi Himal (7,187m) standing tall in the distance. The trail continues to Sirdibas, a charming village with traditional stone houses and Buddhist prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. This area marks the beginning of the influence of Tibetan Buddhism, and you’ll begin noticing mani walls and chortens along the path.

Crossing a long suspension bridge over the river, we reach Philim, a larger Gurung village known for its cultural richness and fertile agricultural lands. Philim is also home to a Japanese-funded school and several well-maintained teahouses, making it a perfect spot for a short tea break.

From Philim, we move deeper into the Nupri region, which literally means "Western Mountains" and is home to people of Tibetan origin. After passing Ekle Bhatti ("lone teahouse"), the trail becomes more remote and less inhabited. We continue through narrow gorges carved by the Budi Gandaki and walk past dramatic rock faces and dense forest cover. The terrain here is rugged and quiet, giving a true sense of Himalayan isolation.

Eventually, we emerge into more open terrain and reach Deng, a small village perched near the riverbank surrounded by barley fields and pine-covered hills. Deng marks the cultural and geographic gateway to the upper Manaslu region.

Today’s journey takes us deeper into the heart of the Manaslu region as we leave the lower valley behind and ascend toward Namrung. The trail begins with a gradual climb, crossing the Budi Gandaki River before descending slightly into the picturesque Sringi Valley. As we gain elevation, the first major Himalayan peaks—like Ganesh Himal and Sringi Himal—begin to emerge on the horizon, setting the stage for what’s ahead.

We’ll pass through dense forests rich in biodiversity and dotted with Buddhist shrines, prayer wheels, chortens, and long Mani walls etched with sacred inscriptions. Along the route, we traverse charming villages like Pork, known for its beautiful setting and sweeping mountain views. This alternate route offers a stunning perspective of traditional Gurung settlements framed by alpine landscapes.

As the trail narrows, we follow the river upstream through a dramatic gorge. After crossing the river multiple times on suspension bridges, we face a steep final ascent leading us to Namrung Village—a cultural and scenic gem that marks the beginning of the Tibetan-influenced region. Surrounded by terraced fields and stone houses, Namrung offers an ideal overnight stop with breathtaking sunset views and peaceful ambiance.

We begin the day early to witness a spectacular sunrise lighting up the Himalayan giants—Sringi Himal, Ganesh Himal, and Buddha Himal—from the peaceful setting of Namrung. This village marks the entrance into the culturally rich upper Nubri Valley, where the Tibetan influence becomes increasingly prominent in the architecture, language, and lifestyle of the locals.

The trail leads us through dense pine and rhododendron forests, past small settlements, ancient stupas, and barley fields, gradually unveiling the spiritual ambiance of the region. As we walk, prayer wheels spin with the mountain breeze, and Mani walls line the paths—symbols of devotion deeply rooted in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Crossing the valley side of Simnang Himal, with Ganesh Himal rising across the horizon, we continue toward the scenic village of Lho. Along the way, we catch our first awe-inspiring glimpse of Mount Manaslu (8,163m)—a sight that marks a major highlight of the trek.

Tonight, we stay in Lho, a charming village perched against a backdrop of snow-covered peaks. From your guesthouse window, enjoy both sunrise and sunset views over Manaslu and the surrounding ranges—an unforgettable panorama that captures the spirit of this hidden Himalayan gem.

Today’s trek is relatively short in distance but incredibly rich in cultural and scenic highlights. As we leave Lho, the majestic north face of Mount Manaslu grows ever more dominant, offering breathtaking views throughout the day. The trail gently ascends through alpine woods and meadows, passing ancient Mani walls and prayer flags fluttering against the backdrop of snowy peaks.

We stop to visit the beautiful Ribung Monastery, an important spiritual site nestled on a hillside above Lho. Continuing forward, we pass through the picturesque Shyala Village, which is surrounded by panoramic views of Himal Chuli, Peak 29 (Ngadi Chuli), Ganesh Himal, and the striking hanging glaciers that pour down from the slopes of Manaslu.

Upon arriving in Samagaun, one of the largest settlements along the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal, you'll feel transported into a world suspended in time. This traditional Tibetan village—inhabited for over 500 years—is a living example of high-altitude resilience. You may see local women weaving wool into traditional gowns or shopkeepers offering local items and even Chinese brandy.

Along the way, you will encounter several Mani walls inscribed with Tibetan prayers, adding a spiritual dimension to your journey.

The path then widens into a broader valley, and you arrive at Samdo, a traditional Tibetan Buddhist village with about 200 permanent residents. Known for yak herding, sheep breeding, and barley farming, Samdo offers a genuine glimpse into the traditional mountain lifestyle. The villagers’ hospitality and the authentic culture here provide a memorable Himalayan experience.

Starting from Samdo, you’ll cross a wooden bridge over the Budi Gandaki River and approach the Larkya Glacier, an impressive icy expanse that marks the base of the Larke La pass. The trail passes numerous Mani walls and a monastery, punctuating the spiritual aura of this remote landscape.

The path winds around the valley of Sala Khola, ascending steadily until you reach Dharmasala, the base camp for the Larke La pass. At this high-altitude shelter, you will spend the night preparing for the challenging pass crossing ahead. The stunning panoramic mountain views and crisp alpine air make Dharmasala an unforgettable stop.

Today is the highlight of the Manaslu Circuit Trek — crossing the Larke La Pass, one of the highest and most dramatic mountain passes in the Himalayas. After a steady but slow ascent, you’ll reach the pass at 5,213 meters (17,099 ft). Take time to soak in the breathtaking mountain panorama, which includes Himlung Himal (7,126m), Chap Himal, Gyaji Kang, Kang Guru (6,981m), Annapurna II (7,937m), and many other majestic peaks.

The descent from the pass is steep and challenging, traversing scree and ice near the glacier, so careful footing is essential. After several hours, the terrain eases as you enter the valley of the Burdin Khola. The trail from here to Bhimtang is easier, passing through high-altitude meadows and forests where you can relax and reflect on this incredible achievement.

Today’s trek features dramatic mountain views again, with Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Himlung Himal, and Cheo Himal towering above the lush valleys below. From Bhimtang, you walk through rhododendron forests and a narrow valley, reaching the highest cultivated land in the region at Karche.

The trail climbs steeply over a ridge before sweeping down to the riverbank. A short distance further, you pass through the villages of Gho and Tilje, where some trekkers opt to stay overnight. However, you continue to Dharapani for the night, concluding a scenic and invigorating day amid the Himalayan wilderness.

After breakfast, you’ll board a public jeep to Besisahar, the gateway town to the Annapurna and Manaslu regions. Upon arrival, your private vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Kathmandu. The scenic drive passes through terraced fields, traditional villages, and river valleys, allowing you one last glimpse of Nepal’s rich natural and cultural diversity.

In Kathmandu, you will check into your hotel.
