On clear days, you can spot majestic mountains such as Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna, and Lamjung Himal rising above the landscape.

After a hearty breakfast, your adventure into the Annapurna massif begins. You’ll take a 1.5-hour drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, the official starting point of the trek.

From Nayapul, enjoy a gentle 15 to 20-minute walk along the scenic banks of the Modi Khola River, arriving at Birethanti (1,015m / 3,330 ft) — a bustling village with shops, teahouses, and lodges.

The trail then winds through local villages, following the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola valley. The path steadily climbs up the valley’s side to reach Hile (1,495m). After a short ascent beyond Hile, you arrive at today’s destination, Tikhedhunga (1,550m / 5,085 ft).

Today marks an exciting and rewarding stage of your trek as you begin ascending the famous 3,500 stone steps that lead to Ulleri, a vibrant Magar and Poon village perched at 2,070 meters (6,791 ft). This climb is physically demanding but offers incredible views and the chance to witness local life up close.

The trail gradually ascends through rhododendron and oak forests, bursting with vibrant colors especially in spring. Passing through Ulleri village, you’ll feel the unique cultural atmosphere of the Magar community, known for their warm hospitality and traditional lifestyle.

After Ulleri, the trail mellows as you continue toward Banthanthi, a quaint resting spot perfect for a refreshing cup of tea and a chance to mingle with fellow trekkers. From here, the path winds gently through beautiful forests until you reach Nangathanti, where you will stop to enjoy a wholesome lunch surrounded by mountain views.

The last stretch takes you through more forested terrain until you arrive at Ghorepani, a charming village known as the gateway to the world-famous Poon Hill. Ghorepani’s peaceful atmosphere and stunning mountain backdrop make it a perfect place to rest and prepare for the early morning hike ahead.

This morning, rise before dawn for one of the most unforgettable experiences on the trek: the sunrise hike to Poon Hill. Today’s trek begins with a steep descent through rhododendron forests and quaint villages such as Chuile and Burjung, where traditional lifestyles are still vibrant. You’ll cross several small streams and trails lined with colorful wildflowers, immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the region.

After crossing a river, prepare for a steady ascent that gradually eases as you approach Gurjung, a small farming village inhabited by the Gurung community, renowned for their rich culture and traditions. Here, you can witness local farming practices and enjoy the peaceful rural atmosphere.

Following lunch in Gurjung, the trail offers a gentle and scenic walk to Chhomrong, a large village nestled in the lap of the Annapurna massif at 2,170 meters. Chhomrong is a popular stop for trekkers and offers spectacular mountain views, cozy teahouses, and the chance to interact with friendly locals.

Begin your day with breakfast overlooking the mountain peaks before descending steep stone steps from Chhomrong down to the Chhomrong Khola river valley. You will cross a suspension bridge spanning the roaring river — a thrilling and picturesque experience.

From here, prepare for a steep climb to Lower Sinuwa, continuing upward to Upper Sinuwa, where you can pause for a tea break surrounded by lush forest. The trail then follows a gentle, scenic walk through dense jungle, rich with birdlife and greenery.

From Dobhan, your trail takes you deeper into the forest, entering a sacred zone where noise is discouraged to respect nearby temples and spiritual sites. From here, the trail descends briefly to the river, then climbs steeply once more to reach Deurali. This high clearing offers stunning views of the surrounding valley and dramatic peaks such as Machhapuchhre and Gangapurna, promising a memorable evening surrounded by Himalayan grandeur.

Today is the highlight of your journey. From Deurali, follow the trail along the Modi River as you begin a challenging climb toward Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC). The path steadily ascends through rocky terrain with fewer trees, offering uninterrupted views of snow-capped peaks.

At MBC, take time to admire the stunning surroundings — the towering peaks of Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre, Gangapurna, and Himchuli create a breathtaking amphitheater of mountains. The air here is crisp and cool, and the sense of achievement is immense.

The final stretch to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) involves a 2 to 3-hour trek along a wider, more exposed path with minimal vegetation. As you enter the Annapurna Sanctuary, the panoramic mountain views expand, revealing near-vertical cliffs and glaciers.

At ABC, standing at 4,130 meters, you are surrounded by some of the highest and most impressive peaks in the world, including:

This downhill journey drops approximately 1,700 meters, with the trail winding through lush forests and alongside the roaring Modi River. The changing scenery offers new perspectives of the landscape you conquered on the ascent.

Arriving at Bamboo, a peaceful village surrounded by towering bamboo groves, you will rest here overnight, ready to continue descending tomorrow.

Continue retracing your steps to Chhomrong, descending steeply through rhododendron forests. Cross the Chhomrong Khola via suspension bridge and climb the stone steps to the village for lunch.

From Chhomrong, descend sharply to Jhinu Danda, a tranquil village known for its natural hot springs. The springs are just a 20-minute walk from the guesthouse along the riverbank.

This is an ideal spot to soak your tired muscles and relax in warm, mineral-rich waters surrounded by nature — a rejuvenating experience after days of trekking.

Your final day of trekking begins with a pleasant walk along the right bank of Modi River for about 4 to 5 hours to Birethanti. This stretch is one of the most serene and scenic parts of the trek, with gentle trails winding through forests and local farmland.
From Birethanti, it is a short walk to Nayapul, where your vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Pokhara.
